克勞德·莫奈（Claude Monet，1840-1926），最典型最出色的印象派畫家。

“印象·日出”

1874年年，莫奈參加了第一次印象派展覽，展出了自己的作品“日出·印象”，這幅畫描繪的是法國勒阿弗爾港清晨的風景，太陽剛剛升起，水面霧氣朦朧。由於畫的是光線短暫變化的瞬間，於是受到學院派的嘲笑，說“日出·印象”完全就是憑印象胡亂畫出來的，印象派由此得名。

沒想到，這些挖苦的話，反而成全了印象派，成就了莫奈。

“草垛”

光和影的色彩描繪是莫奈繪畫的最大特色。在他的畫作中看不到明確的陰影，也看不到突顯或平塗式的輪廓線。

他說“我作畫猶如鳥兒在唱歌。”他的風景畫如同音樂一樣，有著明快，抒情的色彩。他醉心於捕捉大自然的光與色的變化。
